One of Herbert Garrison's favorite programs was the show Barnaby Jones (1973 - 1980) about a private eye played by Buddy Ebsen. The third grade class was forced to watch at least two seasons of the series, and was quizzed regularly. Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski had a particular distaste for the program, getting bored after five days of reruns. Eric Cartman, meanwhile, owes the detective show for giving him an opportunity to star in a Cheesy Poofs commercial.
